Our History

Camp Allen New Hampshire has been creating life-changing summer experiences since 1931. Originally founded by the Boston Lions Club, and later joined by the Manchester Lions Club, the camp first welcomed young girls who were blind. Over the decades, our mission has grown to embrace children, teens and adults of all ages and genders with developmental and/or physical disabilities.

What began as a small, focused initiative has blossomed into a thriving, inclusive community. Today, Camp Allen NH proudly serves over 800 campers each year through our day and overnight programs. Surrounded by the beauty of the great outdoors, campers enjoy a supportive environment where friendships bloom, personal growth is encouraged and unforgettable fun is always part of the journey.

1960s

By the mid 1960s, Camp Allen NH began allowing boys with muscular dystrophy as campers, in addition to the visually impaired girls it had been serving for 30 years. By the late 1960s, Camp Allen NH’s mission was changed again, to serve people with disabilities regardless of age, gender or ability which continues to this day.

Present

Today, we have over 600 campers attend Camp Allen NH each summer. The same joyful, inclusive, fun-filled experience has been offered for over 90 years.

1931

Camp Allen New Hampshire was founded in 1931 by Dr. Edward Allen and the Boston Kiwanis Club as a camp for visually impaired girls.
