Camp Allen NH Celebrates Mobility Access Week Through Community Partnerships and Inclusive Recreation

Longstanding community partners and new collaborations help expand accessible outdoor experiences for campers with mobility disabilities.

Camp Allen NH is celebrating Mobility Access Week now through Thursday, July 23, highlighting the power of inclusive recreation and community partnerships that help make outdoor adventure more accessible for individuals with mobility disabilities.

Mobility Access Week is a one-week specialty camp session designed for individuals with mobility disabilities. Approximately 90% of campers attending the session primarily utilize a wheelchair.

Expanding Opportunities for Adaptive Recreation

This year's Mobility Access Week builds on Camp Allen NH's new partnership with Northeast Passage (NE Passage), which has already brought adaptive cycling opportunities to camp. During Mobility Access Week, NE Passage will expand those opportunities with adaptive archery.

Campers take adaptive cycling equipment for a spin at Camp Allen NH with Northeast (NE) Passage.

Campers will also have the opportunity to participate in accessible yoga programming with Yoga in Action, designed to support movement, wellness and participation for campers with a range of mobility needs.

Together, these activities give campers opportunities to try something new, stay active and experience recreation in ways that meet their individual abilities and needs.

A Longstanding Beach Day Tradition

One of the week's signature events takes place on Sunday, July 19, when campers travel to Hampton Beach for Camp Allen NH's annual Beach Day.

Teamsters Local 633 and Associated Grocers of New England continue their longstanding partnership with Camp Allen NH by sponsoring this special tradition, with Teamsters Local 633 generously providing transportation for campers to and from the beach.

Beach Day gives campers an opportunity to enjoy a day away from campus filled with recreation, friendship and time together at the New Hampshire seacoast.

"Mobility Access Week is about creating opportunities, not limitations," said Mel Gosselin, Executive Director of Camp Allen NH. "Every camper deserves the chance to experience the freedom, adventure and connection that come from spending time outdoors. Thanks to the support of our community partners, we're able to make those experiences possible."

Creating Accessible Camp Experiences for 95 Years

For 95 years, Camp Allen NH has provided enriching camp experiences for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. Mobility Access Week reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to removing barriers and creating meaningful opportunities where campers can discover new interests, build independence and enjoy experiences that celebrate ability.

Through new collaborations and longstanding community partnerships, Camp Allen NH continues to expand what's possible for the campers who call camp home each summer.
